BREAKING NEWS: Georgia Supporters Might Side with Paul Finebaum’s Take on Star Player.  Should Georgia part ways with its offensive coordinator?

Paul Finebaum, a prominent college football analyst and SEC-focused personality, has long been a thorn in the side of Georgia fans. Despite his deep ties to the conference, Finebaum has rarely shied away from critiquing the Bulldogs, even as they’ve dominated the college football landscape in recent years. His latest remarks, however, might unexpectedly align with the frustrations of the Georgia faithful.
Earlier this week, Finebaum stirred controversy by praising quarterback Carson Beck’s transfer to Miami (FL) while taking a swipe at Georgia’s program. Unsurprisingly, this did little to endear him to Bulldog supporters. Yet his newest critique—directed at offensive coordinator Mike Bobo—has struck a chord. During a recent segment, Finebaum declared:
“Georgia’s issue lies squarely with the offensive coordinator… Kirby Smart, as brilliant as he is, is being overly loyal to Mike Bobo. I’d remove Bobo immediately. You could stroll down Peachtree Street and find a better play-caller than him.”
Is Mike Bobo to Blame for Georgia’s Offensive Struggles?
While Georgia’s defense last season was arguably championship-caliber, the offense repeatedly fell short. The unit’s inconsistencies—particularly a nation-leading number of dropped passes by receivers and uneven performances from Beck—sparked widespread criticism of Bobo’s leadership. Though some issues, like execution errors, may not fall entirely on the coordinator, questions lingered about play-calling decisions and offensive preparation.
Bobo’s scheme and in-game choices often left fans baffled, fueling calls for his dismissal after Georgia’s season-ending loss to Notre Dame. Still, the Bulldogs secured an SEC title and a College Football Playoff berth under his direction—a testament to the program’s overall strength.
The Verdict on Bobo’s Future
The debate hinges on whether Georgia’s offensive woes were a one-off or a sign of deeper issues. While Bobo isn’t solely responsible for every misstep, the coordinator inevitably shoulders the blame when expectations aren’t met. For now, Kirby Smart appears committed to retaining him. But with Georgia’s sights set on national titles, patience is thin. If the offense doesn’t rebound in 2024, Smart may have no choice but to heed Finebaum’s advice—and the demands of an impatient fanbase.
