The New Orleans Saints have appointed Brandon Staley as their new defensive coordinator, and veteran defender Alontae Taylor wasted no time in sending him a message.
After an extensive coaching search, the Saints have solidified their top three coaching positions. Kellen Moore takes over as head coach, Doug Nussmeier steps in as offensive coordinator, and Brandon Staley will lead the defense. The trio previously worked together with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023, when Staley served as head coach. Now, they reunite in New Orleans under Moore’s leadership.
Following Staley’s hiring, Taylor quickly took to Instagram to share his excitement, urging the new defensive coordinator to unleash him on the field.

Taylor, a versatile cornerback, has been vocal throughout the Saints’ coaching search. When Moore was named head coach, Taylor went on Instagram Live, calling on him to hire the best defensive coordinator available to help the team compete for a Super Bowl. Moore responded by bringing in Staley, a coach known for his defensive expertise.
Staley made a name for himself as the defensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Rams, where his unit’s dominant performance earned him a head coaching opportunity with the Chargers. Though his tenure in LA was inconsistent, his ability to craft strong defenses remained evident.
Now, Staley takes on the challenge of revitalizing the Saints’ defense, working with key players like Taylor. The talented defensive back has showcased his versatility, excelling both as an outside corner and in the slot. In 2024, he recorded four sacks and seven tackles for loss, demonstrating his ability to impact the game at multiple levels.
With New Orleans coming off a disappointing defensive season, Staley’s job will be to maximize the talent at his disposal. The Saints have the pieces to field a formidable defense—it’s just a matter of putting them in the right positions to succeed.
