Jalen Milroe was expected to shine in at least one area of the NFL Combine. Meanwhile, another Alabama Crimson Tide player made a strong impression in interviews. However, Milroe gained attention for an unexpected decision, earning the label of a “wildcard quarterback.”
Despite his well-known speed, Milroe opted not to showcase it for NFL scouts at the combine, according to The New York Times.
“Milroe is incredibly fast,” Bruce Feldman noted. “(His game against LSU in 2023 is a prime example of his explosive acceleration). He told an NFL coaching staff during a meeting that he believes he could run the 40-yard dash in 4.3 seconds. However, he decided against running it in Indianapolis. The staff questioned his choice, noting that if he posted such a time, it could impress scouts and potentially improve his draft stock.”
What Lies Ahead for Alabama’s Jalen Milroe in the NFL?
Milroe’s appeal to NFL teams goes beyond his speed. Feldman highlighted his strong arm and praised his work ethic, which has caught the attention of NFL coaches. However, consistency remains a concern.
Kalen DeBoer Says ‘Real Recruiting’ Can Level the Playing Field for Alabama
Milroe isn’t expected to be an early-round pick, but he remains unfazed, according to USA Today.
“I’m fine with being underrated,” Milroe said. “I played in the toughest conference in the country. I faced the No. 1 team and the No. 1 defense. If I lacked football knowledge, I wouldn’t have been able to win big games. In my first year as a starter in 2023, I went undefeated in SEC play while facing a variety of defensive schemes. There’s so much that goes into preparation that people don’t always see.”
Beyond his skills, Milroe’s love for the game stands out.
“I love football,” he said. “Everything about it. I know that where I am today, I’ll be even better a year from now. My goal is always to help the team and avoid being one-dimensional on the field. While there are areas I need to improve, there are also many things I know I do well. Competing in the SEC has prepared me for the NFL.”
