Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields is in need of a new contract if the team wants to stick to its “Plan A.” With a record-breaking amount of cap space heading into free agency, the Steelers have the financial flexibility to invest in Fields.
According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, Fields could land a deal similar to the one Sam Darnold received last year—a one-year, $10 million contract. Breer believes that this type of offer could secure Fields, whether in Pittsburgh or elsewhere.
“This is a big week for Pittsburgh as they attempt to re-sign Justin Fields,” Breer wrote. “He’ll have other options—one being the New York Jets, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Indianapolis Colts got involved. If he hits the market, I think he could secure a deal similar to what Sam Darnold got with the Minnesota Vikings last year.”
Fields impressed in 2024, going 4-2 in six starts for the Steelers. During that stretch, he accounted for 10 total touchdowns with just one turnover. Although he did not retain the starting role, he remained involved in specially designed “Fields packages” throughout the season.
While Pittsburgh is keen on keeping Fields, they aren’t the only team interested. The New York Jets, along with the Las Vegas Raiders and Indianapolis Colts, are reportedly eyeing the quarterback as well.
