DONE DEAL: Versatile Playmaker Poised for Leeds United Return After Verbal Agreement

Leeds United supporters have reason to celebrate, as a former fan favorite is on the verge of making a sensational return to Elland Road in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Despite recent struggles in the Championship and growing concerns about missing out on promotion, Leeds appear to have lined up their first summer signing.

Nearly a year ago, the Whites suffered heartbreak in the Championship play-off final against Southampton—who have since endured a disastrous Premier League campaign, sitting at the bottom of the table with just nine points.

Under Daniel Farke, Leeds remain focused on securing the league title, although their recent 1-0 defeat to Portsmouth allowed Sheffield United to draw level on points in second place, with Burnley just two points behind in third.

However, amid their promotion push, Leeds have been working behind the scenes to bring back former midfielder Kalvin Phillips. Reports now indicate that the 29-year-old is set for a return to Elland Road this summer—provided Leeds secure their place in the Premier League.

Leeds and Man City Reach Verbal Agreement for Phillips

According to TeamTalk, Leeds and Phillips have reached a verbal agreement for his return. The club has reportedly been negotiating for nearly a year, coming close to re-signing the England international last summer.

The report also suggests that any potential move hinges on Leeds achieving promotion, as well as finalizing a transfer fee with Manchester City. Pep Guardiola is open to offloading Phillips after a difficult spell at the Etihad, and a fee of around £20 million could be enough for Leeds’ 49ers ownership group to seal the deal.

Earlier this season, it was reported that City would be willing to sell Phillips following his loan spell at Ipswich Town. During his time with the Tractor Boys, he has struggled for impact, making just 16 Premier League appearances without scoring or assisting.

Recently, Leeds have been closely monitoring Phillips during his loan stint at Portman Road, with their interest in a summer move accelerating rapidly.

With a verbal agreement now reportedly in place, Leeds must focus on securing promotion—if they succeed, their midfield talisman will soon be back in white.
