Nottingham Forest has earned widespread praise for their exceptional scouting and development of Murillo, a player expected to bring them a significant transfer profit in the future. While the timing of a potential move remains uncertain, the Brazilian defender has reinforced his commitment to the club by signing a new contract. His performances have been instrumental in Forest’s push for Champions League football.
Murillo has played a key role in Forest’s strong campaign, with their recent victory over Manchester City further boosting their European ambitions. His impressive form has drawn admiration from pundits, who have highlighted the club’s outstanding scouting efforts.
South American football expert Tim Vickery was particularly impressed, calling Forest’s discovery of Murillo “an unbelievably brilliant find.” Speaking on the Monday Night Club, Vickery explained that Murillo didn’t earn his spot at Corinthians through standout reserve performances but was given an opportunity only after the club sold another player.
That player was Paraguayan defender Fabián Balbuena, who was in his second stint at Corinthians. Murillo stepped up only after Balbuena’s departure, making just 25 appearances before securing a move to Forest. Since then, he has more than doubled that number of appearances for his new club.
“Although Corinthians had some cup runs that may have given him exposure, most of the hype at the time was around another left-footed centre-back, Lucas Beraldo from São Paulo, who later joined Paris Saint-Germain,” Vickery noted.
However, Vickery believes Murillo is the superior player. “There’s no doubt in my mind that Murillo is far better. PSG has already signed Ecuadorian defender Willian Pacho as an upgrade on Beraldo, while Murillo continues to improve.”
He concluded by praising Forest’s scouting team: “To identify Murillo so early—after just ten first-team games—was a fantastic piece of work. They secured an incredible bargain, and when the time comes, the profit they’ll make will be enormous.”
