Miami Heat fans may welcome a trade involving Terry Rozier this offseason, given his underwhelming performance.
Rozier has averaged 11.5 points and 2.7 assists while shooting 40.1 percent in 57 games. His defense has also been a concern, making him a potential trade candidate. One possible scenario involves Miami sending Rozier to the Washington Wizards in exchange for former Boston Celtics guard and Defensive Player of the Year, Marcus Smart.
Bleacher Report has identified Smart as a potential target for the Heat.
“If Miami continues building around Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo, the team will need shooting and point guard support,” wrote B/R’s Eric Pincus. “[Davion] Mitchell may stay but could be better suited as a backup. Duncan Robinson is expected to opt into his final year, which is only partially guaranteed. The Heat could either develop younger players or trade prospects like Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Nikola Jović to strengthen their core around Herro and Adebayo.”
Washington is unlikely to accept a one-for-one swap of Rozier for Smart. However, adding draft picks and possibly a young player could make the deal more appealing. Rozier’s contract runs through 2026, meaning he would only be with the Wizards for one season unless they negotiate a lower-cost extension.
Pairing Smart with Herro in the backcourt could provide Miami with a better balance of offense and defense.
