Nick Sirianni’s New Assistant: Cole Peterson

Cole Peterson, the son of a college football coach, has been around the sport his entire life. In January 2023, he was named UAB’s Executive Director of Football Operations, marking his first season with the Blazers.

At just 24 years old, Peterson already has an impressive résumé. In 2022, he worked at Indiana University as the Assistant Director of Football Operations and Assistant to Head Coach Tom Allen.

Before that, he made history as the youngest Director of Football Operations in college football when he took on the role at his alma mater, Youngstown State, in 2021. There, he managed all aspects of the football program and worked under head coaches Bo Pelini and Doug Philips.

During his time as a student at Youngstown State, Peterson was actively involved in the football program for three years. He graduated with a degree in communications in December 2021.

His ties to UAB go back to 2012-13 when he lived in Birmingham while his father, John, coached the Blazers’ offensive line. Before attending Youngstown State, Peterson also spent time at Akron and Pitt.
