BREAKING NEWS:Mookie Betts to Miss Tokyo Series Due to Illness

Mookie Betts will miss both games of the Tokyo Series against the Chicago Cubs as he recovers from an illness that has kept him sidelined.

Betts was absent from the Dodgers’ final Cactus League game against the Cleveland Guardians and did not participate in team workouts on Thursday and Friday. According to manager Dave Roberts, he has been experiencing flu-like symptoms, including vomiting, as reported by Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register.

On Sunday, Betts attempted a light workout but felt fatigued afterward, per David Brandt of the Associated Press. The hope was for him to complete a full workout on Monday to be ready for the series, but Roberts later confirmed he would not play in either game. There is also a possibility he could return to the United States early, according to Jared Greenspan of MLB.com.

“We’re optimistic for Opening Day,” Roberts said. “But our priority is making sure he’s not at risk.”

With Betts out, Miguel Rojas will step in as the Dodgers’ starting shortstop for the Tokyo Series.
