Chris Wood Injury Update: Nottingham Forest Hope for Quick Return

Nottingham Forest are reportedly optimistic that striker Chris Wood has not suffered a serious injury and could return to action soon.

Wood sustained an injury while playing for New Zealand in a World Cup qualifier and was forced off the pitch. The Daily Mail reports that Forest have received encouraging updates from the New Zealand camp ahead of the striker’s return to the City Ground.

The 33-year-old was substituted in the 54th minute of New Zealand’s match against New Caledonia after landing awkwardly while taking a shot, injuring his hip and ribs. He was seen applying an ice pack to his right side after leaving the field and was set to undergo scans on Tuesday before flying back to the UK.

Speaking to New Zealand radio station RNZ, Wood said, “That’s where the pain is at the moment. I felt it on that side, so I’ll get it checked over and hopefully it is nothing too major and just an impact injury.”

Wood has played a key role for Nuno Espírito Santo’s side, who currently sit third in the Premier League.

Forest return to action on Saturday in the FA Cup quarter-finals against Brighton & Hove Albion (5:15 pm kick-off) before hosting Manchester United in the Premier League next Tuesday (8:00 pm kick-off).
