Leeds United fans are no strangers to taunts from opposing supporters, and this time, Luton Town fans joined in during their Championship clash on Saturday (5 April).
Isaiah Jones opened the scoring for Luton, shocking the Leeds supporters who made the trip to Kenilworth Road. However, Daniel James quickly responded for the visitors, leveling the match at 1-1 by half-time.
Leeds’ brief fall behind coincided with Burnley equalizing 1-1 against Coventry City, momentarily pushing Leeds into third place in the tightly contested promotion race.
Luton supporters didn’t miss the opportunity to poke fun at Leeds. Journalist Justin Allen noted on X (5 April) that the home crowd chanted “Leeds are falling apart again,” relishing the situation.
“‘Oh deary me. Luton winning and fans singing: Leeds are falling apart again. Burnley now second,’” Allen shared.
The chant, familiar to Leeds fans, usually re-emerges at this stage of the season. Ironically, Leeds supporters themselves have used it in jest when the team is in good form.
Championship Standings at Half-Time:
- Sheffield United – 1st, 83 points
- Leeds United – 2nd, 82 points
- Burnley – 3rd, 82 points
With the race for automatic promotion heating up, any misstep could be costly. Fortunately for Leeds, James’ equalizer helped calm the nerves and keep their top-two hopes alive—for now.
