Coco Gauff took to social media to celebrate the UConn Huskies after their dominant victory in the NCAA Women’s Basketball National Championship. She gave a special shoutout to standout stars Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd, praising their leadership in securing UConn’s well-earned title.
The championship game, held on April 6 at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, saw UConn cruise to an 82–59 win over the reigning champions, the South Carolina Gamecocks. The victory marked the Huskies’ 12th national title and their first since 2016.
Azzi Fudd led all scorers with 24 points and earned the Final Four Most Outstanding Player honor. Paige Bueckers, in what could be her final college game, added 17 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Freshman Sarah Strong made a major impact as well, posting a double-double with 24 points and 15 rebounds.
Gauff quickly joined the chorus of praise after the final buzzer, posting a short but enthusiastic tribute on her Instagram story:
“Unbelievable @paigebueckers @azzi35 congratulations.”
The connection between Gauff and the UConn stars isn’t new. During her third-round match at the 2024 US Open, Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd were spotted cheering her on from her player’s box. After the match, Gauff revealed they had been in touch online and were finally able to meet in person.
“I’ve known Paige and Azzi on social media for a while. Obviously, they’re amazing at what they do at UConn,” Gauff shared in a post-match interview. “I knew they were coming to the match, and I finally got to meet them in person afterward—that was the first time.”
