MLB Rumors:With Guerrero Jr. Locked In, Are the Blue Jays Preparing to Move On from Bichette

The Toronto Blue Jays have finally put an end to the Vladimir Guerrero Jr. contract saga. On Sunday night, the team agreed to a massive 14-year, $500 million deal with the superstar, effectively keeping him in Toronto for the remainder of his MLB career. This move secures Guerrero as the franchise cornerstone for years to come and closes the door on speculation that dragged into the 2025 season.

However, the same certainty doesn’t exist for Bo Bichette.

Despite a disappointing 2024 season, Bichette is on track to hit free agency after 2025 unless an extension is reached. But according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, the odds of him staying in Toronto appear slim.

“Bo Bichette, Guerrero’s longtime teammate, could re-establish himself as a top free-agent target if he rebounds from a rough 2024. But regardless, it seems unlikely he’ll remain with the Blue Jays,” Feinsand noted.

Bichette’s performance has been inconsistent in recent years. After a strong 2023 campaign (.306, 20 HR, 73 RBI), he struggled in 2024 (.225, 4 HR, 31 RBI in just 81 games), significantly hurting his market value. Though his talent remains undeniable, his slow start in 2025 (.277, 0 HR) hasn’t helped his case.

Despite the uncertainty, Bichette has made it clear he’d prefer to stay in Toronto long-term.

“It’s been my goal since I was a kid—to spend my entire career with one organization and build a winning culture alongside Vladdy,” Bichette said after Guerrero’s extension. “But right now, there’s nothing on the table.”

Earlier in the season, he expressed similar sentiments while acknowledging no negotiations had taken place:

“We haven’t had any talks. But growing up, you dream of being one of those players who stays with one team forever. Right now, I’m just focused on helping this team win and being the best player I can be. Whatever happens, happens.”

As things stand, Bichette’s future in Toronto looks doubtful—unless something changes.
