BREAKING: Cooper Flagg Opens Up About NBA Decision as April 26 Deadline Approaches

As the transfer portal heats up for the Duke Blue Devils and the pursuit of five-star prospect Nate Ament continues, one question looms large for fans: Will Cooper Flagg declare for the NBA Draft, where he’s projected to be the No. 1 overall pick by the Utah Jazz?

This decision wouldn’t be so intriguing if Flagg hadn’t previously hinted at the possibility of returning to Duke for another season. Thanks to the rise of NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) deals, that option is still on the table.

“Given the millions Flagg has already earned through NIL, NBA executives believe there’s a bit of hesitation about leaving college so soon—something no one would’ve predicted when he first joined Duke,” noted NBA insider Jonathan Givony. “It also highlights just how much the college basketball environment has shifted.”

Flagg has delivered a freshman season for the ages—surpassing legends like Carmelo Anthony and Zion Williamson. If he were to come back for another year, many believe he could solidify his legacy as the greatest player in NCAA history.

Appearing on ESPN Friday night, Flagg addressed his future and his thoughts on the next step toward the NBA.

“I think it’s time to evaluate and reflect. It’s been an amazing year. I’ve built great relationships and met amazing people,” Flagg said. “Now I just need to take a few days—or even a week or a month—to talk with my parents and coaches and figure out what’s truly best for me.”

While Duke head coach Jon Scheyer would likely encourage Flagg to go pro in June, the final decision rests with the young star himself. With the April 26 declaration deadline quickly approaching, time is running out.
