JUST IN: Texas Guard Exits Without Ever Suiting Up for Longhorns

Malik Presley’s brief tenure with the Texas Longhorns has come to an end before he ever stepped onto the court. After transferring from Vanderbilt last year, the guard announced via Instagram that he is re-entering the NCAA transfer portal with three years of eligibility remaining. Presley, who redshirted the entire 2024-25 season, expressed gratitude to supporters and wrote,

“After much thought and reflection, I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal… I’m excited for what lies ahead and look forward to finding the right fit to continue my academic and athletic journey.”

Presley becomes the second Longhorn to depart this offseason, following forward Devon Pryor, who transferred to Oregon after appearing in 30 games over two seasons. Prior to joining Texas, Presley logged 26 games at Vanderbilt in 2023-24, averaging 2.2 points and 1.6 rebounds per game while shooting 42.9% from the field.

His next destination remains unclear, though he previously drew interest from programs like Arizona State, TCU, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, and Houston. Meanwhile, new Texas head coach Sean Miller is reshaping the roster, adding transfers Matas Vokietaitis (Florida Atlantic), Camden Heide (Purdue), and Dailyn Swain (Xavier) to offset the departures. Presley’s exit leaves the Longhorns with gaps to fill as they prepare for the upcoming season.
