The Boston Bruins closed out their 2024-25 road schedule with a 4-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday afternoon. David Pastrnak contributed two assists, while Elias Lindholm, Morgan Geekie, and Jakub Lauko each found the back of the net. The game also featured a milestone moment, as top prospect Fabian Lysell netted his first NHL goal.
With the Bruins on a second-period power play and leading 1-0, Lysell took a feed from Pavel Zacha and beat Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry. Lindholm, who scored with just 1.6 seconds remaining in the first period, expressed his excitement for his teammate after the game.
“It’s always nice to see someone score their first NHL goal,” Lindholm said. “It’s been a long time for me, but anytime you see someone get their first, it’s a great feeling.”
Korpisalo Secures Another Win
While Lysell’s debut goal stole headlines, goaltender Joonas Korpisalo delivered another strong performance, turning aside 24 of 25 shots. His only blemish was a second-period power-play goal by Rickard Rakell.
Assuming Jeremy Swayman starts in Tuesday’s season finale against the New Jersey Devils, Korpisalo will finish his first season in Boston with an 11-10-3 record, a 3.05 GAA, and a .901 save percentage. Acquired from Ottawa in the Linus Ullmark trade last June, the 30-year-old netminder has enjoyed a resurgent season under Bruins goaltending coach Bob Essensa.
7th Player Award to Be Announced Ahead of Final Game
Before Thursday’s 5-2 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks, the Bruins distributed several team awards—but one remains: the 7th Player Award, given to the player who exceeds expectations. The winner will be revealed before Tuesday’s game against the Devils.
This year, Morgan Geekie appears to be the frontrunner. While surprises are always possible, Geekie’s contributions make him a deserving candidate for the honor.
