The Miami Dolphins are reportedly exploring a trade for superstar cornerback Jalen Ramsey before the 2025 NFL Draft, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
A generational talent and one of the league’s premier shutdown corners, Ramsey has been a dominant force since entering the NFL as the fifth overall pick in 2016. Over nine seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Rams, and Dolphins, he has consistently ranked among the game’s elite. Even at 30, Ramsey remains a top-tier defender, finishing 2024 with a 76.9 PFF grade—10th-best among 116 qualifying cornerbacks.
However, with Miami facing financial constraints after pushing all-in during Tua Tagovailoa’s rookie deal, the team may have no choice but to move on. Ramsey is owed $25.1 million in guaranteed money this season, with $21.1 million due to any team that acquires him. While that’s a steep price for an aging star, several contenders could see him as the missing piece for a championship run.
Potential Landing Spots for Ramsey
Detroit Lions
Fresh off a 15-win season, the Lions are firmly in their Super Bowl window. But after a surprising playoff exit and the departures of key coaches—including offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn—Detroit must bolster its roster. With $42.3 million in cap space and seven draft picks, the Lions have the resources to make a move. Adding Ramsey to their secondary could be the final piece needed to bring a Lombardi Trophy to Detroit.
Los Angeles Chargers
Jim Harbaugh’s Chargers exceeded expectations by making the playoffs in what was supposed to be a rebuilding year. Now, they must capitalize on that momentum in a loaded AFC. While they’ve strengthened their trenches, the secondary remains a question mark—especially after losing Kristian Fulton to Kansas City and with Asante Samuel still unsigned. Ramsey would instantly elevate this defense from solid to elite.
Green Bay Packers
The Packers may soon part ways with oft-injured cornerback Jaire Alexander. Though talented, Alexander’s inability to stay healthy has been a persistent issue. Trading for Ramsey would give Green Bay a true lockdown corner while easing the transition away from Alexander. In a competitive NFC North, this move could help the Packers stay in contention.
Jacksonville Jaguars
New head coach Liam Coen inherits a defense that ranked near the bottom of nearly every major category last season. While Ramsey alone can’t fix all their issues, his return to Jacksonville—where his career began—would provide leadership and stability in the secondary. Pairing him with Trevor Lawrence could help the Jaguars rebound quickly.
Baltimore Ravens
Financially, this would be tricky, but the fit is undeniable. Though the Ravens already have Marlon Humphrey and first-round pick Nate Wiggins, adding Ramsey would give them an elite trio in a division (and conference) loaded with star quarterbacks. After falling just short of the Super Bowl in back-to-back seasons, Baltimore might see Ramsey as the final piece to push them over the top.
As the draft approaches, all eyes will be on Miami to see if they pull the trigger on a deal that could reshape multiple franchises.
