Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid may not top the league in goals or points this season, but he’s once again earned the respect of his peers. On Tuesday, McDavid was voted the NHL’s “Best Overall Forward” in the 2024–25 NHLPA Player Poll. He secured a dominant 73.89% of the vote—the highest percentage in any category—highlighting how highly regarded he is among fellow NHL players.
The NHL Players’ Association shared the news on X with a simple but powerful statement: “He is McHim.” The post emphasized just how decisive the poll results were, leaving no doubt that McDavid is seen as the league’s premier forward.
McDavid outpaced other elite players by a wide margin, with Colorado’s Nathan MacKinnon receiving 9.62%, Tampa Bay’s Nikita Kucherov getting 6.41%, and both Sidney Crosby and Kirill Kaprizov tying at 1.53%.
This recognition comes as McDavid wraps up another impressive regular season. The 28-year-old has tallied 99 points in 66 games, including 26 goals and 73 assists. While it’s unclear if he’ll play in the Oilers’ final regular-season game, he’s just one point shy of hitting the 100-point mark for the fifth consecutive season—and the eighth time in his career.
Earlier this week, McDavid was named the NHL’s Second Star of the Week after notching nine assists over three games following his return from injury. That included a four-assist outing against San Jose and two more in a victory over Winnipeg.
McDavid missed Monday’s heated matchup against the Los Angeles Kings, and his status for Wednesday’s season finale remains uncertain. The Oilers, who have secured third place in the Pacific Division, are set to face the Kings in the first round of the playoffs for the fourth straight year.
