JUST IN: What Alabama Baseball Must Do to Host a Regional

No. 18 Alabama baseball is in a tough spot after losing its last three SEC series, a skid that has significantly hurt its chances of hosting an NCAA regional for the first time since 2023. However, hope isn’t lost just yet.

The Crimson Tide (31-10, 9-9 SEC) has fallen short in back-to-back weekends against Auburn, Mississippi State, and LSU. Despite the struggles, Alabama currently holds the No. 9 spot in the RPI rankings—a key factor in determining regional hosts alongside national standings.

With four SEC series remaining—home matchups against winless Missouri and Georgia, plus road trips to Vanderbilt and Florida—Alabama has a chance to turn things around. Winning all four would go a long way in strengthening their postseason resume ahead of the SEC Tournament.

The Tide also has a big opportunity on May 6 with a road game against No. 20 Troy, and they’ll host Samford this Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT.

As the postseason picture begins to take shape, Alabama’s room for error is razor-thin. Dropping three straight conference series has cast doubt among the selection committee, which ultimately decides the 16 host sites. If Alabama wants to be among them, it must finish strong.
