As Texas A&M continues to reshape its roster under newly appointed head coach Bucky McMillan, the Aggies secured a major boost in the backcourt by landing one of the most coveted guards in the transfer portal—Duke Miles. The former Oklahoma standout announced his commitment to Texas A&M just hours before the portal officially closes, marking what could be a turning point for the program’s offseason rebuild.
Miles, a 6-foot-2, 188-pound redshirt senior from Montgomery, Alabama, brings both experience and efficiency to a roster that has seen significant turnover. Known for his sharp scoring instincts and defensive tenacity, Miles averaged 9.4 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game last season while shooting an impressive 51.4% from the field. He was equally reliable from the free-throw line, converting at an 83.1% clip.
The Aggies’ lack of shooting depth was a glaring issue last season, but Miles’ arrival directly addresses that need. His polished offensive skill set and ability to contribute on both ends of the floor instantly position him as a leader in McMillan’s system.
Miles, who began his college career at Troy before making stops at High Point and most recently Oklahoma, chose Texas A&M over a long list of high-major programs including Baylor, USC, Tennessee, Indiana, and Texas. His decision is not only a testament to McMillan’s growing influence but also a signal that top-tier talent is taking notice of what’s brewing in College Station.
Defensively, Miles adds grit and energy to the Aggies’ backcourt, averaging 1.4 steals per game last season and recording 22 steals during SEC play alone. That two-way presence could prove invaluable as Texas A&M looks to re-establish its identity in a competitive conference.
With the portal deadline looming, the addition of Duke Miles could be the piece that begins to solidify McMillan’s vision for the program. After months of uncertainty, the Aggies are beginning to take shape—and the outlook for the future is growing increasingly optimistic in Aggieland.
