Could Another Mets Star Get a $182 Million Contract Renewal? Would This Be His Opportunity to Expand His Real Estate Holdings?
According to sources, the New York Mets may be planning to spend an additional $182 million to re-sign slugger Pete Alonso, in addition to the staggering $765 million they already spent to acquire phenom Juan Soto.
The 30-year-old Alonso joined the organization in 2016 after being selected by the Mets with the 64th overall choice in the second round of the MLB draft. But following a legendary eight-year run, the baseball pro’s contract terminated in the 2024 season, becoming him a free agent for the first time in his career.
Now that the MLB Winter Meetings have concluded and some free players have been signed by new organizations, there are still concerns about
future of Alonso, especially in light of the fact that team owner Steve Cohen disclosed that the player is still “engaged” in discussions on his future.
According to the New York Post, Cohen told reporters, “We think he is a great bat, and we’re still engaged.” “We hope he remains.”
Although the billionaire acknowledged that Alonso, who his supporters call “Polar Pete,” has other alternatives and has been considering them, he expressed confidence that the veteran Mets player will stay with the organization.
