“We’re Going to Miss Him”: Detroit Lions $18.25 Million Offensive Weapon Will Undergo Season-Ending Surgery
The Detroit Lions, who rank sixth in rushing offense, could not run the ball effectively in their Week 15 loss to the Buffalo Bills. For the first time all season, the Lions failed to rush for over 100 yards, totaling a season-low 48 rushing yards on the ground. To make matters worse, their star offensive weapon exited yesterday’s game.

The Detroit Lions $18.25 million star running back exited the first half with an injury
Lions’ star running back David Montgomery suffered an apparent knee injury after tweaking something in his knee after a successful fourth down conversion attempt in the second quarter. Montgomery later returned to the game, and his last snap of the game was the 10:34 mark in the fourth quarter. He rushed for four yards on five carries and caught four passes for 31 yards in 24 offensive snaps.
Initial tests determined that David Montgomery suffered an MCL injury and would be out indefinitely. He underwent further testing on his knee to decide whether he would miss the remainder of the season. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, after getting more tests, Montgomery suffered a significant MCL injury, and head coach Dan Campbell told reporters during his press conference that he would undergo season-ending surgery.
Montgomery finishes his second year in Detroit with 775 rushing yards on 185 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also had 36 receptions for 341 receiving yards.
Here’s what Dan Campbell had to say about David Montgomery’s injury news
“David’s so tough, man,” Campbell said on Monday. “He continued to play through and then got it checked out today and realized that’s what it was. he’s just the ultimate teammate, the ultimate competitor. We’re gonna miss him, man. He’s another one of these guys that got us to this position, helped get us to where we’re at. The rest of us, we owe him to keep going and make sure that wasn’t in vain.”
