Auburn University’s men’s basketball team has solidified its position at the pinnacle of the Associated Press (AP) Top 25 poll, maintaining the unanimous No. 1 spot for the second consecutive week. This achievement comes on the heels of a narrow victory over then-No. 6 Tennessee, where the Tigers showcased resilience by rallying in the final moments to secure the win.
The latest AP Top 25 rankings are as follows:
- Auburn (18-1)
- Duke (17-2)
- Iowa State (17-2)
- Alabama (17-3)
- Florida (18-2)
Auburn’s impressive 11-game winning streak includes hard-fought victories in challenging road environments against teams like Georgia, South Carolina, and Texas. A key contributor to their recent success is forward Johni Broome, who returned from an ankle injury to deliver a standout performance against Tennessee, recording 16 points, 14 rebounds, and 4 blocks.
The Southeastern Conference (SEC) standings have been dynamic, with Auburn leading the pack with an 18-1 record. Notably, Vanderbilt has made a significant leap, entering the AP Top 25 at No. 24 for the first time since 2015, following impressive victories over top-10 teams.
As the season progresses, Auburn aims to maintain its top position, with upcoming challenges including a matchup against LSU. Despite LSU’s struggles this season, they recently demonstrated resilience in a narrow loss to then-No. 4 Alabama, indicating that Auburn cannot afford to be complacent.
Auburn’s ascent to the No. 1 spot marks only the second time in program history that the team has achieved this ranking, underscoring the remarkable progress under the guidance of head coach Bruce Pearl
