Leeds United have received a significant injury setback as a key player earning £40,000 per week has been ruled out for several weeks.
Leeds’ Impressive Unbeaten Run Continues
As Daniel Farke prepares his squad for a crucial Championship clash against West Bromwich Albion at Elland Road, Leeds remain in excellent form. The Whites have gone 16 games unbeaten in the league, securing major victories over promotion contenders Sunderland and Sheffield United. Currently, they hold a five-point lead at the top of the table, with their last defeat dating back to November against Blackburn Rovers.
Farke acknowledged the challenge posed by West Brom ahead of Saturday’s fixture:
“West Brom are a strong side, sitting in fifth place. We need to stay focused and pay attention to the small details. I’m not getting carried away—we want to keep this momentum going. I admire teams with a clear playing style, and you can see their manager’s methodical approach.”
Ethan Ampadu Injury Update
However, Leeds will be without club captain Ethan Ampadu, who missed the recent 3-1 victory over Sheffield United due to a knee issue. Providing an update, Farke confirmed that Ampadu will be sidelined for several weeks.
“It’s a complicated situation. Surgery would have ended his season, but after multiple consultations, we’ve chosen a conservative treatment approach. If the rehab goes well, he could return in a few weeks. Normally, we expect a recovery period of four to six weeks, meaning he won’t be back before the international break.”
Farke also cautioned that if the non-surgical approach fails, Ampadu may still require surgery, which would rule him out for the rest of the season.
Fixtures Ampadu Will Miss
Ampadu’s absence will see him miss at least four upcoming Championship matches:
Leeds vs West Brom – March 1
Portsmouth vs Leeds – March 9
Leeds vs Millwall – March 12
QPR vs Leeds – March 15
There is hope that the Welsh international will return after the international break, but even if he remains unavailable, he is expected to continue supporting the squad as he did during the win over Sheffield United.
