Celtic have yet to conclude their search for a new Head of First-Team Scouting and Recruitment, although there are several individuals that might be considered. Parkhead authorities will attempt to find a new talent-spotter ahead of the summer transfer window, after Mark Lawwell’s decision to retire from his high-ranking job after two years in the role “to pursue fresh challenges” earlier this month, alongside top scout Joe Dudgeon.

The Hoops’ recruitment team has come under fire in previous summers for dubious transfer activity, with Brendan Rodgers publicly voicing his unhappiness with the lack of quality acquisitions to his squad since returning to Glasgow’s east end for a second stint as manager.

 

Left Monaco in October and reportedly held talks with Liverpool over their director of football vacancy. Previously worked alongside Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham, helping recruit players like Dele Alli, Son Heung-min, Kieran Trippier and Toby Alderweireld. Moved on to RB Leipzig and was instrumental in signing Christopher Nkunku.

Much of Lawwell’s work – the son of Celtic chairman Peter – was deemed unsuccessful, which surprised many given his decade-long tenure with the City Group, where he rose to become head of scouting and recruitment within the global structure that includes clubs such as Manchester City and Yokohama F Marinos.

He left Monaco in October and apparently spoke with Liverpool about their director of football job. Previously worked with Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham, where he helped acquire players such as Dele Alli, Son Heung-min, Kieran Trippier, and Toby Alderweireld. He then joined RB Leipzig and played a key role in the recruitment of Christopher Nkunku.
