Seven-time Formula One world champion and Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton has revealed his ambition to design a new Ferrari supercar inspired by the legendary Ferrari F40.
In an exciting revelation, Hamilton shared his vision with Motorsport.com, stating,
“One of the things I really want to do is design a Ferrari. I want to do an F44—based on the F40, with a proper stick shift. That’s what I’ll be working on over the next few years.”
This news comes after Hamilton’s recent performance in China, where he impressed in the Saturday sprint race but faced disappointment on Sunday following disqualification from the Grand Prix.
Hamilton has long admired the F40—it’s not just his favorite supercar, but a widely recognized icon of automotive history. Former Ferrari F1 driver Gerhard Berger once described it as “very easy to drive… if you are experienced with racing cars.” And if anyone fits that description, it’s Hamilton.
This isn’t the first time he’s looked beyond his F1 career to influence road car design. While at Mercedes-AMG, Hamilton told TopGear.com in 2019 that he wanted to create a special edition of the AMG-One. He envisioned adding a custom exhaust, increasing power, modifying the bodywork, and even working directly with buyers to personalize each car.
Now, with Ferrari, his aspirations have shifted to reimagining one of the greatest supercars of all time. A manual, Hamilton-designed Ferrari inspired by the F40? That’s an idea every car enthusiast can get behind.
