Aston Villa are reportedly planning a surprising move for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma, a player admired by manager Unai Emery.
Villa’s Transfer Plans Taking Shape
With just nine Premier League games remaining, Villa remain in the hunt for a top-four finish, sitting only four points off the Champions League spots. Their impressive run to the quarter-finals of Europe’s top competition has slightly impacted their league form, highlighting the need for more squad depth this summer.
Emery appears focused on reinforcing attacking positions, with Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman and Chelsea’s Noni Madueke among the targets. Barcelona’s Ferran Torres is also on their radar. However, a new report from TEAMtalk suggests that Villa are also looking to strengthen their midfield, with Bissouma emerging as a surprise target.
Bissouma on Villa’s Radar
The Malian midfielder has struggled for consistency at Spurs this season, and the London club is reportedly open to selling him for around £35m. Emery is a keen admirer of the 28-year-old and believes he can unlock his full potential. If signed, Bissouma would add competition for midfield spots alongside Boubacar Kamara, Youri Tielemans, and Amadou Onana.
A Fresh Start for Bissouma?
Despite falling down the pecking order at Tottenham, Bissouma has still showcased his qualities. He ranks highly in key midfield metrics, particularly excelling in passing and tackling:
Journalist Nizaar Kinsella has also described Bissouma as “dangerous” when driving forward, making him a well-rounded midfield option.
However, Villa may look to negotiate a lower fee, considering Bissouma’s contract runs until 2026 and Spurs only paid £25m for him in 2022. While £35m might seem steep, securing a deal at a reduced price could make him a valuable addition to Emery’s squad.
