Martin Carruthers, a former Hull City and York City forward, has stood down as manager of non-league club Matlock Town.
The 51-year-old has been in charge of the Gladiators since December 2022, leading the team to the Northern Premier League Premier Division play-offs last season.
However, due to a drop in form, Carruthers has decided to stand down from his position. Matlock moved promptly to fill the position, naming Adam Yates and Mark Atkins as acting co-managers.
Matlock chairman Jay Beaumont said: “I’d like to express my gratitude, as well as that of everyone involved with the club, for his efforts during his tenure. Last season, we made it to the play-offs against the odds, thanks to Martin, Wayne, and his staff and players, who were fantastic. He’s been a wonderful asset to the team.

“I’d like to thank Wayne [Hallcro, assistant manager], who will be departing alongside Martin. Everyone is sad that things did not work out for them this season, and they will be welcome at our club at any moment.
Carruthers is a very experienced figure who had a good career in the EFL before sliding down the non-league pyramid and finally hanging up his boots. In addition to Hull and York, he has played for Aston Villa, Stoke City, and Peterborough United.
He was formerly the manager of Basford United and Ilkeston Town before taking over Matlock.
