Protective Mama Tatum Steals Spotlight After Celtics’ Game 1 Win Over Physical Magic

Brandy Tatum didn’t hold back after watching her son take a hard fall in the Boston Celtics’ series opener against the Orlando Magic.

Celtics star Jayson Tatum had an injury scare during Sunday’s Game 1 after a rough foul by Magic guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. As Tatum drove for a dunk in the fourth quarter, Caldwell-Pope’s hard contact—along with an extra bump from Orlando’s Wendell Carter Jr.—sent the six-time All-Star crashing to the floor, landing awkwardly on his right wrist.

Despite the fall, Tatum stayed in the game, though he missed both free throws following the flagrant-1 foul call. The Celtics cruised to a 103-86 victory, with Tatum finishing with 17 points and 14 rebounds on 8-of-22 shooting.

But the real postgame moment came when Brandy Tatum met her son outside the locker room. In a now-viral exchange, she asked Jayson, “Want me to go to the Orlando locker room?”—prompting a quick head shake from the Celtics star.

Fortunately, X-rays on Tatum’s wrist came back clean, and he downplayed the injury afterward, calling it “alright.”

That didn’t stop Mama Tatum from making her feelings clear. The Magic have developed a reputation for physical—and sometimes questionable—play this season, and Sunday’s incident only added fuel to the fire.
