Leeds United have officially secured promotion back to the Premier League, with celebrations continuing late into Monday night and into Tuesday morning following their emphatic 6-0 victory over Stoke City on Easter Monday.
The dominant win meant Sheffield United needed to beat Burnley to delay Leeds’ promotion. However, a 2-1 loss at Turf Moor sealed Leeds’ return to the top flight. Josh Brownhill’s brace also ensured Burnley’s promotion, setting up a battle between the two clubs for the Championship title. Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder congratulated both Daniel Farke and Leeds after the promotion was confirmed.
Promotion is expected to usher in a summer of change at Elland Road. With the Premier League ahead, Leeds will need to strengthen their squad, meaning new signings are anticipated and some players may depart to make space.
Junior Firpo’s Future Hinted at by Wife on Instagram
The future of left-back Junior Firpo remains uncertain, as his current contract expires in June, alongside teammates Sam Byram and Josuha Guilavogui. However, Firpo, a regular starter under Farke, is seen as a more integral part of the squad.
In a possible sign of things to come, Firpo’s wife, Julia, shared a photo on her Instagram story featuring the player and their two children, captioned with the words: “Premier, here we come.” The post suggests Firpo may be staying with Leeds next season, but an official contract extension would still need to be signed.
