The announcement on Friday that more Celtic fans will attend future derbies against Rangers at Ibrox is good.
The SPFL announced in a statement this morning that both teams will set aside around 5% of their stadiums for away fans beginning in 2024/25.
For Celtic, this means that about 2,500 fans will go to Govan next season, and further information about their accommodations at Ibrox has surfaced.
With Celtic hosting the first meeting between the two teams next season, Bhoys fans will return to Ibrox for the customary New Year rivalry.
This season’s two remaining derbies will be attended entirely by home supporters.
Rangers clarify where Celtic fans will be positioned at Ibrox.
Rangers have stated in a statement that the current developments will affect their fans in the BF5, BR5, BF4, and BR4 sections, implying Celtic fans will be positioned at the Broomloan Road end.
Celtic will be allocated a European-style area at Ibrox, extending from the far corner of the Broomloan from the TV camera’s perspective to around one-third of the stand behind the goal.
It appears that there will be Bhoys fans in both the top and bottom tiers, but not all the way along the Broomloan as in years past when the allocation was at its peak.
The experience should be significantly better for those in attendance than when only 800 or so were crammed into a small nook surrounded by over 50,000 home fans.
Given that many believe Celtic’s derby supremacy was the reason Rangers slashed tickets in the first place, the Bhoys should be able to generate dramatic scenes in Broomloan once more – days that those in attendance will remember forever.
