With the addition of Gardner Minshew early in free agency and no long-term quarterback beyond the 2024 campaign, there is a great deal of uncertainty surrounding the future of the quarterback position for the Las Vegas Raiders.
Nonetheless, Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce gave a clear indication of the team’s intentions as the NFL Draft approaches, which is at the conclusion of this month.
At the NFL Annual Meeting, Pierce told reporters, “I think everything is on the table.”
Might the Raiders of Las Vegas Make a Trade to Get a Quarterback?
The Raiders must secure the quarterback position in order to ensure the team’s long-term viability and to provide Pierce with a valuable foundation for his first full season as head coach.
According to ESPN, Pierce said to reporters, “Anything that makes the Raiders better.” “I wholeheartedly support. And when I say that I’m a go-getter, I mean that I want to do all it takes to win, including finding the best player to make our team the best. That’s what I’d like to see us do.Compared to me, Tom Telesco has far more draft experience. I’m going to rely on him and his knowledge on the best course of action. We’ll go get him if it’s a good match, the man we want is a Raider, and he conforms to our version of the Raider culture.
Raiders owner Mark Davis has reportedly granted Telesco and Pierce permission to make any move they see fit, according to ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez.
The price that Davis is prepared to pay may depend on how high the Raiders have to go to get a quarterback.
Who Might Be Available for Trade Up by the Raiders?
Las Vegas may need to rise all the way to the No. 3 overall pick if Pierce and the Raiders have their sights set on players like Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, or even Michigan’s explosive quarterback prospect J.J. McCarthy. Additionally, there’s no assurance that the Patriots will drop back.
With the No. 13 overall pick in this year’s class, Las Vegas may have to give up both their first-round pick this year and at least a selection in the first round of the 2025 draft if they want to improve their quarterback room, which currently comprises Aidan O’Connell and Minshew.
In actuality, the Raiders are only one of several teams who might rush the gates in order to trade up, joining clubs like the Minnesota Vikings and maybe even the New York Giants, who are in a stronger position than Las Vegas is right now in terms of draft cash.
