Ipswich Town in serious talks to land an EPL top star after PL promotion.

FLW’s Ipswich Town fan commentator examined the club’s links with Eddie Nketiah and Armando Broja.

Ipswich Town is contemplating signing Eddie Nketiah or Armando Broja, but they must exercise caution before making pricey moves.
Fans are pleased about the possible acquisitions, although others think there are better choices available to match the manager’s style of play.

Ipswich should rely on Kieran McKenna to make prudent and smart additions in the forthcoming transfer window, rather than recklessly squandering cash.
This post is part of Football League World’s ‘Terrace Talk’ series, which features personal comments from FLW Fan Pundits on breaking news, teams, players, managers, possible signings, and more.

Following their promotion to the Premier League, Ipswich Town have begun to look at prospective additions for next season.

We’re less than a fortnight away from the season’s end, and over a month until the transfer market opens, yet Kieran McKenna’s team has been connected with many players.

Ipswich Town appear to be looking to acquire a striker ahead of next season, with Eddie Nketiah and Armando Broja recently connected with the Tractor Boys.

This is an audacious move on McKenna’s part, but Ipswich would be able to provide the two a starting spot and the opportunity to work with a highly ambitious manager.

Ipswich Town stated that there may be other viable striker choices out there.

On paper, acquiring Eddie Nketiah or Armando Broja appears to be a sound financial decision. Our Ipswich Town fan commentator, Henry, would be delighted if his team could sign one of the duo, but feels there may be other players who are more suited to Kieran McKenna’s style of play.

Eddie Nketiah

Speaking with Football League World, Henry said: “Those two are fantastic players, but I think Broja fits the bill slightly better than Nketiah does in terms of leading the line, and in terms of physicality, being able to run in behind fits what Kieran McKenna would do.”

“I am not fully sold on either, simply in terms of how they would go on the side. Their powers surpass whatever we currently have in the house.

“Getting them on a permanent basis would cost a significant sum, most likely £15-20 million, if not somewhat more, given to their age.

“If I had to choose between the two, I’d go with Broja, but that’s slightly underestimating how good Nketiah is, and his run of games for Arsenal shows that he must be exceptionally good, and he’s scored more goals in the Premier League than any of our players have ever scored, but I think his link-up play has been questioned.”

“He’s fantastic in the penalty area, but I don’t see him fitting into a McKenna team. I’m sure he could, and if we did sign him, he’d be wonderful, but I can see Broja doing a little more and providing us more out of possession.

“I would go for Broja, but there could be other players available who would fit the bill that McKenna is looking for, and I’m not sure Broja or Nketiah do that.”

Ipswich Town must avoid rushing into transfer decisions.

Given that it is May and the Premier League season is still underway, Ipswich should not rush into acquisitions just yet.

By all means, the club should begin looking at players and sending out feelers, but they’ll have plenty of time to make additions in the months to come when the market opens in June.

With a large chunk of money burning a hole in their wallets, it would be easy for Ipswich to go out and spend it like Nottingham Forest in 2022, but as Forest shown, this does not always work out well.

Ipswich should be prudent in their recruiting, and Kieran McKenna can be relied on to make solid, pragmatic acquisitions for the club.
