On Tuesday, the Pro Bowl quarterback for the Buffalo Bills turned 28. In addition to commemorating another orbit around the sun, Allen’s big day demonstrated the historical success he had already seen in his career.
According to NFL Research, Allen has the most career touchdowns (167 passing, 53 running) of any player born before the year 2000.

NFL Research’s analysis of the data reveals how exceptional Allen’s rise throughout his first six seasons has been.
With the exception of injuries or a dramatic decline in performance, Allen could exceed the 231 total touchdowns (passing and running) that his career rival, Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs, has scored before the age of 29 in 2024.
Even while his ability to be a dual threat has historically put him in the lead, his passing skill is exceptional on its own. Prior to reaching 28, Allen’s 167 touchdown passes are tied for third most in league history.
Hall of Famer Peyton Manning has 167 touchdown passes before turning 28. Only Mahomes (192) and HOFer Dan Marino (196) have more touchdown passes than Manning (196).
According to NFL Research, he is the only quarterback in history to have 150+ passing touchdowns and 50+ rushing touchdowns before the age of 28, and his 53 rushing scores are the most for any quarterback before that age.
After six seasons of a stellar career, Allen has achieved a great deal. His and the Bills’ ability to make it to the Super Bowl and win the team’s first Lombardi Trophy has been criticized heavily. But it’s not for lack of trying or lack of statistical achievement.
Only two quarterbacks had more than 20 touchdown passes in the postseason before they turn 28: Allen, with 21 touchdown passes. The other one? That’s Mahomes, who scored an incredible 35. Naturally, Mahomes has played a significant role in impeding Allen and the Bills’ postseason rise.
Allen is undoubtedly looking for maximum statistical brilliance and that elusive Super Bowl berth as he approaches his 28th season. He’ll accomplish it with a wide receiver corps that has completely changed after losing his two best targets, Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis.
