4-star running back takes a shot at Oklahoma after committing to Texas football.
On Wednesday, the Texas football team received a major commitment from four-star running back James Simon. Simon is the Longhorns’ second running back commit from the 2025 recruiting class, and the tenth overall. Texas has signed zero five-star recruits, seven four-star recruits, and three three-star recruits. Their 2025 recruiting class is presently ranked 13th in the country, but it is very early in the cycle, and there is plenty of opportunity for this to change.
“BREAKING: Four-Star RB James Simon has committed to Texas, he tells me for @on3recruits,” Hayes Fawcett said on Twitter. “The 6’0 197 RB from Shreveport, LA chose the Longhorns over LSU and Notre Dame.”
This is a significant acquisition for Texas football, and James Simon is already hyped for the Red River Rivalry. The Longhorns dislike Oklahoma football, therefore Simon’s commitment targeted the Sooners.
“SEC takeover sucks to be a Sooner HOOK EM,” Simon said.
Both Texas and Oklahoma are moving to the SEC for the 2018 season, which explains Simon’s SEC statement, and this is just one of many significant changes coming to college football. The Pac-12 is no more, and the Big Ten, ACC, Big 12, and SEC will all look very different next season as a result of conference reorganization. The Longhorns and Sooners’ transition to the SEC is a significant move.
Simon is a four-star prospect, according to 247 Sports. He is ranked #200 in the 2025 recruiting class, the #13 running back, and the #4 player in Louisiana. He is presently attending Calvary Baptist Academy in Shreveport, Louisiana. Simon received offers from a number of prestigious colleges before deciding to attend Texas.
Year one in the SEC will be important for Texas.
Texas football has a major year ahead of them as they prepare to join the Southeastern Conference. The Longhorns are projected to be one of the greatest teams in college football next season, since they return a large portion of their College Football Playoff squad from last year. The Longhorns won the Big 12 in their last season, and now they must prove they belong in the SEC.
