Unbelievably, Texas Longhorns President Jay Hartzell sent out a two-word message announcing the departure of three of the team’s top veterans.

CB Caleb Chester, a three-star recruit, chooses Texas.

The start of official visitation season usually signals the start of commitment season.

Over the weekend, Steve Sarkisian and the Texas coaching staff welcomed their first round of formal guests, and today they started to reap the rewards of their efforts. Caleb Chester, a three-star cornerback from Fort Bend (TX) Marshall, was one of only a few recruits to visit the school officially last weekend. He committed to the Longhorns today, setting off fireworks.

After visiting TCU last month and Texas last week, Chester—who reportedly has around 40 offers—was set to make formal visits to Arkansas and Texas A&M this month. Chester decided he had had enough after his trip to Texas and committed to play defensive back, becoming the first defensive back in the Longhorn 2025 recruiting class.

With Chester’s pledge, the Longhorns have now committed eleven players in the 2025 recruiting cycle. According to 247Sports, they are presently ranked 18th in the nation.

Things should be rather active on the recruiting trail as the staff looks to close up some key recruits before heading into the season, with Sarkisian and crew scheduled to host additional official visitors over the next few weeks. One thing we have discovered about this team throughout their stay in Austin is that they know how to lock things down and hold a formal visitation weekend. Considering that, it would be wise for you to have a vigilant mindset as the summer season approaches.

According to 247Sports’ composite rankings, Chester is ranked 787th overall and as the 71st cornerback prospect in the nation.
