Callum Johnson, the new guy at Bradford City, believes the team “just ran out of time” in their attempt to be promoted last season.

Furthermore, he maintains that “timing” is the key if the Bantams are to advance at the conclusion of the 2024–2025 League Two season, citing his former team Mansfield as the ideal illustration.

First and foremost, Johnson played a key role in an outstanding Stags squad that finished the season without dropping a fourth-tier match until November 25, leaving other clubs playing catch up.

They both had a great season finale, as did the Bantams, and although that was enough to put Mansfield beyond the automatic promotion threshold in third place, City almost missed their play-off target.

Johnson pondered, “You never know what would have happened from there. Bradford probably would have made it into the play-offs if there had been one or two more games.”

“It all comes down to timing and starting a run at the appropriate time.

“Take a look at Doncaster; they were at the bottom of the table before Christmas, and they went on an incredible run to make it to the play-offs.

“Obviously, injuries may have an impact, but success is more about hitting the right streak and less about luck—rather, it’s about everything coming into place.

“Because I knew a number of the guys at the club, I kept a close eye on Bradford last year.
