Ross Barkley signed with Aston Villa after leaving Luton Town.

The 30-year-old midfielder, who previously appeared on loan for the Birmingham-based team during the 2020–21 season, is returning to Villa Park.

Barkley has agreed to a lengthless contract with the Villains, who will play in the Champions League the following year.

Barkley, formerly of Everton and Chelsea, signed a one-year contract with Luton after being let go by Nice in France. Across all competitions, he made 37 appearances for Luton, netting five goals and dishing out six assists.

Barkley was awarded Player of the Year by Luton Town Supporter’s Trust and Loyal Luton for his efforts.

Barkley had made 33 appearances for the England national side before to joining Luton.

Barkley praised Luton in a farewell post on social media for his tenure with the team.

“Thank you Luton Town,” he murmured.

“I’m really appreciative of Rob and his team for having faith in me and allowing me to play for such a unique football team.

“I am very grateful to the fans for their unwavering support. With the vibe you create at the Kenny, I will truly miss playing there!

“I hope you have the best possible future and that you recover quickly!”

Gary Sweet, the CEO of Luton Town, expressed his gratitude to Barkley for joining the team and best wishes for his future on the team’s official website.

“It has been an absolute pleasure to watch for all of us Luton Town supporters to have a player of Ross Barkley’s stature and class grace the Kenilworth Road pitch,” the man stated.

“It is a win-win situation for both of us to be able to provide him with a home for a season and a safe haven for the remainder of his career; he knows he can always rely on us.”

“When Ross arrived, he fully embraced all that Luton Town stands for. Everyone would naturally prefer Champions League football to Championship football, and he has enjoyed his time at the club, so nobody should ever doubt his desire to return to Aston Villa.
