Luton Town and Birmingham City square off for a £3.6 million-rated gem after 20 years of competition last season.
Even though they signed League One’s top scorer Alfie May earlier this week, the most recent sources indicate Birmingham City is still interested in another center-forward.
According to a BBC story from last week, Jamie Donley of Tottenham Hotspur was being watched by “many” League One clubs and “several” Championship teams due to his strong performances at the Spurs academy. The source did, however, disclose that Oxford United, a recently promoted second-tier team, was leading the chase for his services and was in negotiations with the North London team to sign him on loan.
However, to add to this transfer drama, football.london is reporting that newly relegated Birmingham and Championship team Luton Town are also interested in signing the 19-year-old. The young player made his Premier League debut in December at the Etihad Stadium, where he replaced Brennan Johnson in the sixth minute of stoppage time against the English champions. Tottenham defeated Manchester City 3–1.
Before the season finished, Donley made a total of four appearances for the senior team. However, it is said that the club is eager to send him out on loan so that he may gain consistent playing time in men’s football. Des Buckingham’s U’s will provide fierce competition for the youthful center-forward’s services from the Blues and Hatters.
Despite playing little minutes for Spurs, the teenager already has a market worth of between £2.1 and £3.6 million, according to FootballTransfers. This shows just how good of a player he is, yet his present club is only considering loan offers at this time.
Chris Davies was just named head coach of Birmingham City ahead of the 2024–2025 season. The 39-year-old has worked with Donley on the training field on a daily basis and is well-known to the attacker from his days in the dugout at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with Ange Postecoglou.
