In the days preceding Tuesday’s Major League Baseball trade deadline, the Phillies made trades from their major-league roster, sending three players—Griffith Soto, Cristian Pache, and Serathony DomÃnguez—to the Orioles in two different deals.
They will join right-hander Zach Eflin, who was dealt by the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday to Baltimore. Eflin was also a former Phillie. Eflin is one of five players that were traded at the 2024 deadline who were previously Philadelphia residents.

The former Phillies that were involved in trades in late July are broken down as follows:
RHP Zach Eflin from the Rays to the Orioles
Three minor-league prospects and financial considerations were exchanged for Eflin by the Rays to Baltimore. As the promising young club looks to make a playoff push, Eflin, who started for the Phillies from 2016 to 2022 with a brief relief stint at the end, will strengthen an Orioles rotation that was in need of support. In his first start for his new team on Monday night, the right-hander gave up three runs in six innings, raising his season ERA to 4.11 in 20 starts.
RHP Michael Lorenzen from Rangers to Royals
Lorenzen, the major trade acquisition of the Philadelphia Phillies at the deadline the previous season, pitched a no-hitter in his first home start before becoming a swingman. Following the trade for left-hander Walter Pennington on Monday, he signed a one-year contract in Texas for 2024 and will now report to the Royals, who are now in position to make the American League playoffs. With 19 appearances, 18 of which have been starts, Lorenzen has a 3.81 ERA.
Cubs trade RHP Mark Leiter Jr. to the Yankees
Over the previous three seasons, Leiter—who was a generally ineffective starter and long reliever for the Phillies in 2017 and a portion of 2018—found himself in Chicago as a full-time bullpen arm. On deadline day, he was moved to New York for two prospects, and later that evening, he made his Yankees debut, helping the team upset the Phillies in 12 innings on Tuesday at Citizens Bank Park. Leiter has made 40 appearances this season and has a 4.10 ERA with a high strikeout rate.
RHP Luis GarcÃa from the Angels to the Red Sox
The hard-throwing GarcÃa, who was a reliever for the Phillies from 2013 to 2018, had a good 2024 season with a 3.71 ERA in 45 appearances. However, his performances were inconsistent. In the American League race for a wild-card berth, Boston traded four prospects for the right-hander on Tuesday.
Padres to Yankees: RHP Enyel De Los Santos
After spending portions of three seasons in Philly in 2018–19, 2019–20, and 2021, De Los Santos finally established himself in Cleveland as a reliever, having two productive seasons there in 2022 and 2023. After the Yankees traded minor-league pitcher Thomas Balboni Jr. and De Los Santos for an outfield prospect, he will join Leiter and company. He has a 4.46 ERA in 44 outings this season.
