Infielder Javier Baez was activated by the Detroit Tigers off the medical emergency/bereavement list, and Brenan Hanifee, a right-hander, and Sean Guenther, a left-hander, were promoted from Triple-A Toledo. Following the trades of right-hander Jack Flaherty to the Los Angeles Dodgers,

left-hander Andrew Chafin to the Texas Rangers, and outfielder Mark Canha to the San Francisco Giants, the team added more players to its active roster. In 67 games this season, Baez, 31, is hitting just.178 with a career-worst.484 OPS. With 1,209 major league games under his belt, Baez is a.251 hitter with a.731 OPS. He has played for the Chicago Cubs (2014–21), New York Mets (2021), and Tigers. With a 5.40 ERA over five innings, Hanifee, 26,

made his first three major league appearances last season while pitching in relief for the Tigers. In 34 bullpen appearances this season, he is 1-2 with a 5.17 ERA in 47 innings pitched for Toledo.

The 28-year-old Guenther hasn’t played in the big leagues since 2021. He was 0-1 with a 9.30 ERA in 14 bullpen appearances with the Miami Marlins during his lone major league season. This season in Toledo, he went 3-4 with a 3.86 ERA in 44 1/3 innings over 34 games (two starts).
