The Atlanta Braves defeated the Colorado Rockies 11-8 to snap a 6-game losing streak. Matt Olson hit two home runs and drove in six more.
With two home runs and a career-high six RBIs, Matt Olson led the Atlanta Braves to an 11-8 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Saturday night, ending a six-game losing streak. Marcell Ozuna and Jorge Soler also hit home runs.
After an 8-8 deadlock was broken in the seventh inning by Olson’s two-run home run off Angel Chivilli (0-1), Soler added a solo home run in the eighth to complete the victory and snap the Braves’ worst losing streak in over eight years (Aug. 13–20, 2016).
The Braves overcame two setbacks in the game: first, they were down 3-0 in the sixth inning due to a three-run home run by Sam Hilliard off of starter Max Fried; second, they were down 8-5.
“Even though we’ve had difficulty assembling a game, it’s significant,” Atlanta manager Brian Snitker remarked. “These players have played here long enough to know that these games are never done until they are finished, so that might have been a “here we go again” kind of thing. Anything is possible.
Hilliard led the Rockies, who have dropped ten of their last eleven games at Coors Field against the Braves, with a home run, two doubles, and a career-high five RBIs.
Olson had his second two-homer game in ten games after hitting two against Milwaukee on July 31, while Ozuna blasted his third consecutive home run. Soler homered in back-to-back games and finished with three hits and three RBIs.
After Ozuna doubled to start the seventh inning, Olson stated, “I just wanted to pull the ball.” “It was necessary to attempt to move him to third base.” was able to slightly elevate the changeup. Although at-bats have improved in quality from earlier in the season, there is still space for improvement
For Colorado, Ezequiel Tovar delivered a two-run double in a three-run sixth inning that knotted the game at eight runs apiece. Brendan Rodgers and Brenton Doyle both had two hits.
Pitching for Atlanta, former Colorado right-hander Pierce Johnson (5-4) went 1 1/3 innings and had a strikeout of Kris Bryant to finish the sixth inning with the winning run on second.
Pitching the ninth inning, Raisel Iglesias recorded his 24th save out of 26 opportunities. “Guys continued to fight,” Snitker stated. “We won a good baseball game.”
