CeeDee Lamb’s Contract Negotiations Have Not Been Ruined by Jerry Jones…Though Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, was widely criticized last week for stating that he was in no rush to come to a deal with All-Pro wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and sign him to a long-term contract, Jones reversed course on Sunday before the Dallas Cowboys’ preseason opener against the Los Angeles Rams.

During the Cowboys’ pregame show, Jones—who is 81 years old and still works as his team’s general manager—spoke and directly addressed his star wideout. “At this point, I really get the anxiety that arises when someone inquires about whether or not you are missed. He said, “Well, CeeDee, you’re missed, okay?”

Lamb, who sent a “LOL” response to Jones’s first remarks on social media, is aiming to become one of the NFL’s highest-paid wide receivers. He likely has Justin Jeffersons’ four-year, $140 million contract with the Minnesota Vikings this summer as a target.
Even though Lamb may have set his sights too high for the Jefferson deal, he is undoubtedly hoping to earn a substantial salary in one way or another. Despite Jones’s back-and-forth message, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer reports that the pay day is still coming in Dallas.

“I can’t imagine the Dallas Cowboys not getting a deal done with CeeDee Lamb,” says Breer. But this week, Jerry Jones’s annoyance with the state of affairs has been rather apparent. Initially, he stated that getting a Lamb extension beyond the goal line wasn’t urgent. Then, he recanted that during the team’s pregame broadcast on Sunday. “This negotiation is difficult enough for all parties involved without the extra noise that seems to have surrounded it,” he said.
Since he is also in the market for a contract extension and is about to begin talks with Jones on his own, Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott is undoubtedly closely monitoring the situation with his top target. Some have suggested that Prescott would play for the Giants in New York the following season and that Bill Belichick will be his coach if those discussions fail.

Prescott and Lamb will most likely play for Dallas in Week 1 of the Cowboys’ 2024 season, which will begin in Cleveland against the Browns. It’s unclear if both players will suit up for the Cowboys in Week 1 of 2025. Well, that will probably be up to Jones.
