After turning down a contract offer, Luton Town has now confirmed the departure of another top talent.

At Vital Luton Town, we were so sure that the sale would go through that we published a piece titled “The Great Center Back Conundrum” in which we posed the question of who, if all the contenders were fit, would make up the third member of the Hatters defense, joining Mark McGuiness and Teden Mengi.

However, the announcement of the signing agreement with Cardiff City came quite late in the afternoon.

On social media, a wag had the wonderful notion that Luton Town ought to have made the signing announcement at precisely 17:59, the exact year the Guiness brewery was established.

As usual, the Hatters’ refusal to disclose the amount of the transfer fee means that we are left to guess as to how much it is.

However, given the official statement that it was for a “significant undisclosed fee,” which is a lovely touch, Luton, we can conclude it was a sizable quantity of money.

Though it’s unclear, I wouldn’t be shocked if Mark wasn’t included in the starting lineup for this Saturday’s away game against Preston North End.

He played a key role in Orient’s midfield for two seasons before moving on to Southend in the fifth division of English football for the 2024–2025 campaign. “I can’t wait to meet the boys, help them out as much as I can, and get some goals and some wins,” he wrote after taking a seat.

“Everyone in the background and the coaching staff are genuinely wonderful people.” I’m extremely excited to go there since I know it’s a huge Club with a great vibe.

Kevin Maher, the head coach of Southend, continued, “We wanted to do it as soon as we heard it might be possible.” He’s the kind of player I think we need, plus he has a ton of experience in the levels above. I have no doubt that he will blend right in with the guys.
