It seems like the Minnesota Vikings had one more roster change planned for today, despite our initial belief that they might be done.
According to James Larsen of Pro Football Newsroom, offensive lineman Chuck Filiaga is the latest UFL graduate to join the Vikings.
If any of you are familiar with that name, it’s probably because Filiaga played football for the Minnesota Golden Gophers in his last year of college (2022). That season, he started all 13 games for the Gophers at right guard and was recognized by the conference’s coaches as an All-Big Ten Third-Team performance (with the media mentioning him as an Honorable Mention).
Filiaga played in 39 games over his five seasons with the Michigan Wolverines before moving to Minnesota. He started eight of those games at right guard and three at left guard. So, yeah, it looks like he can play guard.
Before joining the San Antonio Brahmas of the UFL for their 2024 season, Filiaga played with the Green Bay Packers and the New Orleans Saints for portions of the 2023 offseason and preseason. Although he only saw three plays in the team’s two postseason games, he started eight games for the Brahmas.
Filiaga doesn’t have much time to make an impression, similar to some of the other guys the Vikings are just adding to the roster, but we’ll see if he can before the team’s last preseason game on Saturday in Philadelphia.
When we find out if the club needs to make a matching roster change, we’ll let you know.
Chuck Filiaga, welcome (again) to Minnesota!
