The Dallas Cowboys signed a 26-year-old top veteran today, and they were revived.

Regarding the Dallas Cowboys’ roster for the 2024 NFL season, one of the most pressing concerns has already been answered. They have made sure that CeeDee Lamb is the greatest player in their wide receiver group and Dak Prescott’s top target by agreeing to a hefty four-year $136 million contract.

However, further choices will need to be made, some of which will be challenging, given the deadline today for reducing the roster from 90 to 53 players.

One of those tough choices involving defensive end Carl Lawson, who signed with the Cowboys only last week, was made public earlier today.

Dallas Cowboys Defensive End Has Been Released Carl Lawson

ESPN Cowboys reporter Todd Archer reports that although the Cowboys cut Carlson, they may still be able to re-add him to their practice squad:

Carlson is coming off a 2023 season with the New York Jets that saw him play in just six games due to injuries. In those games, he did not register a single sack.

In 2022, Lawson made his New York debut, appearing in all 17 games with 7.0 sacks.

Lawson spent his first four seasons as a player for the Cincinnati Bengals, where he amassed 20.0 sacks. During his debut season in 2017, he had the greatest single-season total of 8.5 sacks in his career. That was his finest year there.

Regrettably, he spent a significant amount of that time dealing with ailments.

Carl Lawson claimed he felt younger after signing with the Dallas Cowboys.

“I honestly feel like a younger player,” Carlson said to the media upon his signing with the Cowboys last week. I genuinely believe that because of injuries, unfavorable circumstances, teams I’ve been on that haven’t connected, or quarterbacks who have been playing—whether they’re hurt or just running down offenses—my potential hasn’t been realized. In this league, I’ve been a pretty successful pass rusher, but only with losing teams.

Thus, the chance to join a squad that can compete in games and where I can truly demonstrate my abilities. And I’m thrilled to have recently returned and am healthy… All I can say is that I’m humbled and eager to get to work. Even though I’ve been playing the game for a while, I still feel like a rookie since I can never seem to bring everything together.

“I just want to keep working so that I can use my talent to help an organization win and bring the Super Bowl back to Dallas. I know how talented I am.”

Carlson’s choice was hopefully influenced by the brief training camp time he has spent with the squad. Maybe he can catch up on the playbook and get in shape by joining the practice squad at the beginning of the season, before he gets called upon once more.
