After losing to the Boston Celtics in the first round of the playoffs, it’s safe to say that the majority of Alec Burks supporters are dissatisfied with the team’s lack of activity this offseason. Meanwhile, other Eastern Conference teams, like the New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, and others, have improved greatly. Alec Burks has been the Heat’s most notable summer addition. However, with Caleb Martin departing for Philadelphia this summer, it’s extremely likely that they have gone worse since the previous year. Naturally, the Heat will benefit much if they can regain their health. However, in order to compete, they could require much more than that. Whether the Heat attempt to pull off any big transactions in the near future is still to be seen. The Atlanta Hawks’ Trae Young has been mentioned as a possible choice. Greg Swartz stated the following in the Bleacher Report piece “Imagining Every NBA Team’s Top 3 Trade Targets”: “The Miami Heat don’t have a clear positional weakness and should be looking into upgrades or additional depth alongside Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo.”
“The Heat still need an All-Star level point guard, and Young would be a perfect fit for that position, after missing out on Damian Lillard during the previous summer. Miami’s offensive and tempo rankings were a combined 21st and 29th last season, respectively, two categories Young may help spur.” Young’s future in Atlanta has been uncertain for some time due to the Hawks’ lack of postseason success. Therefore, a lot of people think it could be time for the Hawks to attempt something new and move past the “Trae Young era.” Naturally, this does not rule out the possibility that the three-time All-Star may benefit other clubs.
Young is a fantastic creator and scorer. Yes, there are flaws in his game, but Erik Spoelstra is one coach who excels at covering them up. Besides, he wouldn’t have to be Miami’s primary person. Naturally, the Heat would be taking a chance with any move for Young. However, if they wish to be contenders once more, they may have to take that risk.
