SAD NEWS: Another highly regarded defensive guard is lost by the Seahawks.
DETROIT: Monday night football at Ford Field saw the Seattle Seahawks end with 516 yards of total offense in a 42-29 loss to the Detroit Lions. Although Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald doesn’t think the loss is a clear indication of how they’ll perform going ahead, his remarks during the game suggested that playing the Lions was a wake-up call.

“It merely demonstrates that we are not the team we ought to be at this moment,” Macdonald stated to reporters following the defeat. It simply wasn’t up to par. They took the necessary actions to win the match. We failed miserably, but they performed admirably and had a terrific strategy.

So, as a football team, how do we go forward and make the next move right now? The upcoming week is brief, and there is a pressing need. Although there is always a sense of urgency, we need to work here over the next several days to put things right.

Macdonald suffered his first defeat as the Seahawks’ coach since taking the job this offseason. It also ended Seattle’s winning run against Detroit, which stretched back to October 5, 2015. The streak was six games.

Jared Goff of the Lions had a fantastic game, which played a significant part in the Seahawks defeat. Goff ended with 292 yards, two touchdowns, and a perfect 18-for-18 record.

“They did a great job on the one long one to Jameson Williams, but it was a huge bust on our end that we have no business making,” Macdonald said. Thus, we must turn inside. When faced with hardship, we must not point fingers or place blame. All I’m saying is, “Hey, where’s my accountability? Where did I fail to meet expectations? And that’s how you develop as a team thereafter. Thus, it is what must be done.

There were 3:03 remaining in the third quarter when the play Macdonald is referring to took place. The ball was in the hands of the Lions about at their own 25-yard line with a 28-20 lead. Goff found wide receiver Williams, who converted the throw into a 70-yard touchdown, giving the Lions a two-touchdown advantage.

According to Macdonald, “they had a really good plan, and they operated at a high level.” We have Jared’s excellence as a quarterback on file. They ran precise routes, he played clean, and it’s clear that we didn’t deny the ball. That’s exactly right—that’s as evident as it gets. Thus, we have our job cut out for us in terms of defense. We must advance swiftly.

Goff also scored on a trick play that the players are referring to as “Alcatraz,” catching a touchdown ball from Amon-Ra St. Brown for seven yards.
