Carlos Corberan affirms contract talks with West Brom management, saying, “This is a big change.”

Carlos Corberan, the manager of West Brom, has acknowledged that he has discussed player contract extensions with the club’s management.

It’s possible that West Brom was still suffering the impacts of their former ownership during the summer transfer window, but it’s obvious that things have improved at The Hawthorns.

While several summer signings did come with transfer fees, the loan and free transfer markets were judiciously employed to boost the roster while adhering to budgetary restrictions.

It appears that a wise strategy is also being applied in regards to player contracts.

Numerous first-team regulars and other West Brom players have contracts that expire at the conclusion of the 2024–2025 season. Now, boss Carlos Corberan has acknowledged the situation is being handled.

The Spaniard acknowledged that discussions on the short, medium, and long terms had been held between him and the club management in an interview with the Express and Star. As they negotiate a hectic contract time, Corberan has been in discussions with Ian Pearce, head of football operations, and Andrew Nestor, CEO of Bilkul Football Group and interim sports director.

“As a coach, I always share my thoughts with the players, including Ian and Andrew,” the West Brom manager stated.

We hold regular meetings to discuss the team’s progress and the players’ development. These discussions are beneficial. They are aware of my viewpoint, and we share it.

The club is taking into account, among other things, the need to begin working on medium- to long-term goals as well as short-term ones. This is a major difference to the past – something the club is doing.”

A proactive strategy

There’s a lot of work to be done on the contract front as West Brom are still picking up the pieces and coping with the lingering effects of Guochuan Lai’s miserable prior ownership.

However, it is evident that a significantly more aggressive strategy is being adopted. And, while examining the decisions that need to be taken immediately, there is a focus on how those calls will effect them in the long-term too.
