We must all pay attention to this young Sabres winger who is demanding our attention.

Although the Sabres season, which began over a month and a half ago, has had a difficult start, there are still many positive aspects of this hockey squad. We have players like Owen Power who appear to be improving with every game, while Tage Thompson is scoring goals left and right.

We could go on and on debating who has been the most entertaining athlete to don a blue and gold (and occasionally black and red) outfit, but both guys have had fantastic seasons thus far. You should have been interested in Ryan McLeod, JJ Peterka, Alex Tuch, and Jason Zucker.

However, winger Zach Benson is among the players who have had extremely poor starts. Benson scored one goal and provided one assist against the NY Rangers little over a week ago, but it felt like it took forever for him to receive a single point. He has since scored two goals and amassed four points in a row.

Zach Benson, a winger for the Sabres, is establishing himself on the ice.
If Benson’s performance over the last four games has been consistent, it’s that he’s getting more shots on goal—eight in those four games. The Sabres often find ways to score more goals when Benson is getting pucks to the net, as seen by the fact that he had eight shots on goal in his first seven games, or little more than one per game.

Even if you want to claim that this is a tiny sample size, I won’t be swayed. After missing a few games due to an injury, Benson’s productivity has increased tenfold, and he is now beginning to show us what he hinted at at the conclusion of his rookie season in April.

Finding that consistency is now the main obstacle, and if Benson succeeds, he will surpass the 30-point total he scored in 71 games the previous season. If Benson keeps up his present pace, he might nearly double his goal total from the previous season (11). This is because, if you take into account the 76 games he has faced opposition goaltenders, he will conclude the season with 20 to 21 goals.

Therefore, when you sit down to watch the Sabres play, keep an eye on Benson since it appears like the 19-year-old’s difficult start is finally coming to an end. Let’s all pay attention to what Zach Benson has to say since he has made it clear that he wants your attention when he is skating.
